Youth Orchestra Exchange 2027
As part of a youth orchestra exchange program, members of youth and school orchestras from all over the world will come together in January 2027 for a week of collaborative music-making.
During an intensive exchange week, the participants will rehearse and prepare a joint concert program. Through sectional rehearsals led by experienced professional musicians, including members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the young musicians will have the opportunity to further develop their technical and artistic skills.
The project will culminate in a public concert showcasing the musical achievements developed throughout the exchange.

Festival Program Overview
The festival features a diverse range of content, in-depth study and research, diverse formats, and high-end standards. The itinerary includes professional masterclasses, observing the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s daily rehearsals, attending live performances of the orchestra’s music season concerts, performing at a renowned landmark concert hall in Berlin, and visiting the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s instrument museum.
The instructors for the festival’s courses are composed of master performers from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, distinguished professors from the Berlin University of the Arts, and the Hans Eisler Conservatory of Music. Drawing on top-tier teaching resources, these instructors help students refine their artistic skills.
Participants can gain firsthand experience with world-renowned orchestra performers and distinguished music academy professors, deeply understanding the essence of classical music, refining their professional performance techniques, and enjoying a high-quality cross-border art study experience.
The next trip is scheduled to depart in January 2027.

The program included an exchange with a German school orchestra, creating a space for young musicians to connect and share their experiences. In addition, a separate dialogue with the Philharmonic Orchestra at Berlin’s Red Town Hall offered inspiring insights into the world of professional music-making.

Planned is a rehearsal session with the Berlin Philharmonic, as well as a visit to the Berlin Musical Instrument Museum and other cultural institutions.

Rehearsal and workshops
The program featured a dress rehearsal and educational sessions with the Berlin Philharmonic, allowing participants to experience the orchestra’s artistic process, deepen their musical understanding, and learn from professional musicians.

Festival Final at Nikolaisaal Potsdam
The project will culminate in a public closing concert at Nikolaisaal Potsdam, celebrating the artistic excellence, intercultural dialogue, and musical achievements developed throughout the exchange.
The concert will take place at Nikolaisaal Potsdam, located in the renowned UNESCO World Heritage city of Potsdam, just a short distance from Berlin.

History and Present Day
The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the world's leading symphony orchestras. Founded in 1882, it has developed a unique artistic tradition shaped by some of the most influential conductors in music history, including Hans von Bülow, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, and Sir Simon Rattle.
Since 2019, the orchestra has been led by Chief Conductor Kirill Petrenko. Today, the Berlin Philharmonic continues to set international standards through its outstanding concert performances, innovative educational programs, extensive touring activities, and its pioneering Digital Concert Hall, which allows audiences around the world to experience its performances online.

The Berlin Philharmonie Concert Hall
The Berlin Philharmonie is one of the most iconic concert halls in the world and the home of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Designed by architect Hans Scharoun and inaugurated in 1963, the building revolutionized concert hall design with its innovative “vineyard” seating arrangement, placing the audience around the orchestra and creating an intimate musical experience.
The Philharmonie is closely associated with the legendary conductor Herbert von Karajan, under whose artistic leadership the hall became internationally renowned. Its distinctive architecture and exceptional acoustics have made it a landmark of modern concert culture and a destination for visitors from around the world.
As the Philharmonie is scheduled to undergo major renovations in the coming years, 2027 may be among the last opportunities to experience this historic venue in its original form—the same concert hall that witnessed many of the Berlin Philharmonic’s most celebrated performances during the Karajan era.
